Our Brand's Why

Mae B was born from a quiet but persistent disappointment.

I was tired of walking into beautiful boutiques I admired — only to leave empty-handed. The shelves were filled with elegant, fashion-forward stationery, yet none reflected my perspective as a Black woman. The absence was subtle, but constant.

As an Atlanta-born filmmaker and storyteller, I have always understood the power of representation. In film and media, visibility shapes culture. Yet in boutique stationery aisles — even in cities as diverse as Atlanta and New York — the absence was undeniable.

In 2015, I introduced Mae B on Etsy with a single greeting card — born from a desire to see myself reflected in the boutique spaces I loved. Soon after, an early feature in ESSENCE Magazine brought national attention to the brand, affirming that this wasn’t simply personal frustration — it was a shared experience.

Women were looking for beautifully designed paper goods that saw them.

What began as a personal longing evolved into purpose.

Today, Mae B is a Black-owned luxury stationery line translating cinematic storytelling into illustrated paper goods. Each design centers softness, glamour, joy, and modern Black femininity — crafted as frame-worthy art pieces for boutiques serving culturally conscious communities.

Because representation on paper is just as meaningful as representation on screen.
